We were lucky enough to listen to a presentation by Ms Joanna Skillman (1982-1989, St Clare), a Consultant Plastic Surgeon who specialises in reconstruction for people with breast and skin cancer. Working for both the NHS and private practices, she operates on a wide variety of patients, such as those wanting cosmetic surgery and those who have been admitted after trauma. She showed us photos and videos of her fascinating cases, and explained how skin from certain parts of the body is able to be transferred to other parts of the body during surgery. After the presentation, she answered a range of interesting questions, including those on the ethics and the stigma surrounding plastic surgery, as well as making complex healthcare decisions.
